30.09.2023Do you think it's worth upgrading to this from F1 2020? I mainly play career mode. Thanks.
Simon ORegan
23.06.2023Thanks. Pick it up in a Steam if at all. By then it will likely be patched and working properly. Tired of EA kicking their fans in the nuts for pre purchase and day 1 purchases just so we can be Beta testers.

23.06.2023best review i have seen of yours yet ! go mike maang

23.06.2023its got VR…so,…..I'm getting it 🤷♂

23.06.2023I follow F1, but I've never owned the game. I am one of those, as you said, just do runs and runs of hot laps (on ACC). I hear your recommendation, but I'll hold out a bit post launch to see if gets better to push me off the fence.

23.06.2023The only thing I was hoping for in F1 23 was the option to truly disable the “sense of speed” screen shake in cockpit cam. The in game slider hasn’t eliminated sense of speed shake in years. Maybe it’s just me getting old but the shake of the halo and things in the environment makes me more nauseous than playing in VR.😂 I know I’m am one of just a few f1 game players waiting for this fix, but from everything I’ve seen so far it doesn’t seem to have been fixed. It’s a bummer I used to really enjoy the F1 games too. F1 2018-2020 had mods that would fix this but it has been patched in more recent games so it can’t be done anymore 😢

23.06.2023I dont get the need for proper triple screen when you don't even use a realistic view 🤷♂

23.06.2023The mouse thing drives me mental.
Jaco Naude
23.06.2023Still no freaking mouse support on PC, unbelievable, is that really so hard to implement, or are they now just deliberately trolling us… Looks good though, but navigating endless menus trying to figure out what button is A and B really spoils the experience every year. Oh well.

23.06.2023Is thr car handling comparable with a simcade game like AMS2?
Moe simgames
23.06.2023Why do you sit on the intake when you drive F1? I thought you were a sim racer and not a console gamer. Get some immersive experience instead of that childish look, sorry, but I suffer from borderline and write what I think. And the F1 games don't yet support using a mouse for the UI menu and that's bulls**t. Hate it. Otherwise good videos you make when you are NOT sitting on the roof or intakes on the racecars ! 😊👍

23.06.2023Thanks for the great review. I had a feeling F1 23 was gonna to be a small update over F1 22. Typical EA!!
I bet all the bugs and issues from F1 22 are still there, like the terrible safety car behaviour.
There are too many other great games out this year for me to waste my money on this title.
We need competition from another developer to push the title forward.

23.06.2023You are sitting on the driver. Looks funny 😅

23.06.2023I'm not an F1 simmer, but now there's a story back, I may get this and play it as an arcade racer in VR (arcade on purpose I mean).
Luke Braddford
23.06.2023One issue that really pissed me off in f1 22, when you start a time trial or a race. The FFB was totally non existent until I turned the wheel a certain amount. If you restart, same issue. Maybe it was a simucube issue but it was super annoying.

23.06.2023Thanks for the honest review, man. These days I'm getting less and less time to sim and I certainly don't wanna try and figure out how to setup my Fanatec wheel with Thrustmaster shifter and Ali Express pedals with this game. I certainly don't think the new skins, tracks and easier traction are enough to justify the investment, especially after EA has bumped the price in my country. So it's an easy skip for me this year. And although I do think they have made more progress with this edition than what we see most years this is still an easy pass. This money will be better invested in some other games I probably won't play like Final Fantasy XVI lol

23.06.2023The best of this era of F1 game, in my opinion, was 2020; they’ve all been a precipitous slide downhill thereafter.
But, even so, there’s still no official F1 game that’s managed to compete with F1 Championship Edition (F1 06) from way back. That game still holds up.

23.06.2023One can down talk F1 games all you want, but as far as singleplayer authentic F1 season simulator it is leaps and bounds better than all other sims on the market. Apart from all the licences and tv-broadcast experience, out of the box it has superior AI that is a lot more raceable than almost any other title , maybe RR and Iracing are also decent at AI racing, but simulate modern F1 season in those games? Nah. Driving physics are certainly less refined and detailed than other sims, but F1 23 is the best in the series so far in this regard. More useful FFB and far more predictable car behaviour. I can easily recommend it if you like modern open wheel racing, want good singleplayer and can look through the fact the physics engine is a bit more shallow than a hardcore sim.
AV Flashback
23.06.2023In my experience with these Codemasters F1 games the latest game never ends up being the best of the series. For example with the 7th Gen F1 games F1 2012 & 2013 are the best of the series. It's the same with the original Colin Mcrae Rally games CMR 2.0 and CMR 04 are the best of the series. There are so many examples going back the 1990's. The best way to go is to buy a newer version every 2 or 3 years. When you find a version of game that you really enjoy stick with it because 9 times out of 10 it won't get better. The only exemption to that which comes to mind is Grid AutoSport. That game came out right at the death of the 7th generation of consoles and nobody thought the game would be as good as it was. That rarely happens, it's one of the few times where a games developer has surprised me.

23.06.2023Codemasters & EA simply won't ever release the F1 racing simulator that we all here want as dangling that carrot every year earns them way more than actually serving it. Very deep sale or skip for me (have F122 anyway).

21.06.2023Good review

21.06.2023Yes a small upgrade but still better than all the AC/ACC crap!
DjFIL007
21.06.2023Love the included AI traffic jam at the end of the video 🤣 Obviously F1 fans will be (mostly) happy, and while I am an F1 follower since the 90's, F1 games just haven't been my thing since the early 00's. I keep buying a few here and there (2013, 16, 18, 21), but my attention span for these games has got short averaging 5 hours in-game time (Steam shows I did 9 hours in F1 2013 as my most played) before I pack up and move on to another game with more variety.

21.06.2023Hey bro I'm a long time sub and love your channel, is there anyway you can upload at a higher bit rate as the YT compression is bad, thanks for the content.

21.06.2023Triple screen and t-cam? Come on.

21.06.2023Great Video .
For me the Theory goes. If We Stop Buying the F1 Game. They will Fix it
As long as Consumers buy a Game they don't Fix. Why fix it?

21.06.2023if you're stupid enough to buy the game you get what you deserve, if the game keeps selling in a poor state, things will never improve, @^#F em

21.06.2023Here's something I thought of just now
The game should just be called F1 and each season and new /updated tracks should be a yearly DLC for £40. There should be an in game season manager so you can uninstall and install seasons to save space if you desire. That way they can also add classic seasons. Then you could drive classic cars with a full fledged experience.
Also some tracks have 13 year old meshes. Unacceptable for a yearly game which costs £70

21.06.2023The first thing I saw about this game was a banner on Steam that said something about pre-purchasing to get "pitcoins". What an immediate turn-off, lol.
jcoulter43
20.06.2023I've been playing F122 on Xbox Game Pass. Will keep playing that occasionally until this is on Game Pass. Not worth a standalone purchase. Looking forward to Forza. God bless and race on 👍😎🏁

20.06.2023Sorry Mike, as I know you hate to hear this, but………………………. NO MOUSE, NO BUY!!! ;P

20.06.2023When you see a simracer like Mike driving through T-cam it for itself means something…

20.06.2023The fact they still don't offer proper triple screen support shows they are way behind the times and the reason I won't fork over money for this title and any other that doesn't support triples.
onetripwonders
20.06.2023Hey Mike is the VR experience? F122 vr was blurry and poorly optimized so it was a 2hr steam return. It's hard to take a racing title seriously when the only decent view is tv camera instead of cockpit, which I see is still how the esports drivers race. Good VR would bring me back because I agree the career mode is great.
Dead Ben
20.06.2023A good review. But for me, same as every other year, I’ll pass without triple screen support. Would rather spend time in other titles that provide that support. I do have VR also, but often don’t want to wear the headset.
Simon Olsen
20.06.2023Tight, precise script. No fluff. This is a gold standard game review.

20.06.2023I honestly refuses to buy games from EA..
Look at all the other simracing games! Kunos and Reiza have been updating and their games from more than 3 years now, and rfactor 2 and raceroom are receiving major updates from even longer! EA literally killed all of the other f1 games from steam so you need to buy this! They are making exactly the same thing they did with all other sports games! The only way we could chsnge this thing is simply not buying this kind of stuff!
reptilexcq2
20.06.2023So can you use mouse in this game?

19.06.2023Thanks Mike!

19.06.2023I'd wait until it hits GamePass. Otherwise, a pass. Same as last time.
Mr Tom
19.06.2023Thanks for the review. Have picked up the last three titles on sale but will try and hold off this year 😅 Personally I quite enjoyed F1’22 despite its mixed reviews; the AI was fairly good to race against and I preferred the car handling to previous years. That said, I’ve always found there is something in these games that at times can leave me frustrated – mainly bug linked, or occasional isolated incidents of inconsistent/unpredictable FFB and physics (ie oversteer just suddenly kicking in or the car spinning out). But that aside, when these don’t happen (which for me was most of the time in 22) it works well and you can have a great and very satisfying immersive single player experience. Shame it’s under the EA banner now.

19.06.2023Thanks for the review… I'm pretty sure that we'll never see a GOOD game port from console, or made to run or more sistems, but intended firstly for console… It's always some small things, that just ruin the feeling… even AM 2 and DR 2 wich are OK, smell like there is potential, but the console inclusion ruined all ! and I know Reiza is not to blame, but the PC2 engine is what it's!!
Andrew Simmons
19.06.2023🤬 EA
Ralf-Dietmar Sprindt
19.06.2023Ok you talk about immersion and use TV camera 😅, the only true immersion is VR in Cockpit view !!!!!
So there is a VR mode 🤷🏻♂️ but honestly no PSVR 2 mode ???? What a crap EA can hold this game , no money from my side until a proper PSVR 2 mode is available
ACC Mitchell
19.06.2023I really wish they had an arcade mode and a simulation mode. Cause it is an arcade for kids and i would love if they also made a more pure simulator version. I know i could play ac. I just wish f1 would do this
Ludovico Laura
19.06.2023Hi, just one question: last year I bought f1 22 because there was finally the VR support, then I realised that it was very very blurry so I almost didn’t play the game. Do you know if in this new version the VR quality has improved?
Doc Slappy
19.06.2023Used to love these games for the feeling of competing across multiple seasons.
But the interface just worn me down once I got a proper rig and VR.
I tried again last year then got a refund before even getting to drive a car.
My frustration: in your headset please press these random F keys. Ok I can't see the keyboard I'll take my headset off to see. Monitor goes blank with a message 'put on your headset'. And no sneaky button presses allowed while that screen is on. You're only allowed to press all these random buttons while you've got your headset on.
It's part of the game. It's just like that in real life for real drivers.
If you can't use your keyboard without being able to see it, you don't deserve to drive in F1.
Maybe you should get your own pit crew to press the buttons for you if you want to use VR.
A mouse, what the hell do you need a mouse for. Have you ever seen a real F1 driver use a mouse in their car. No, they all use keyboards in real F1 cars.
Do you think I might have let this frustration get to me?
