Sim racing can look like a pretty expensive hobby to newcomers. It’s all too easy to look at the shiny rigs on display at eSport events, or those used by sim racing influencers and come to the conclusion that the sim racing is a costly endeavour. But, it doesn’t have to be. So, this videos takes a look at how to start sim racing as cheap as possible.

26.03.2022Thanks Chris, I really like your vids, very imformative and for a layman like me you hit the button well explained and balanced,…. was going to shell a fortune on a sim set up but you gave me time to think about what i already have, ps4, pc 3070 and a logitech g290? dunno , but i do enjoy what i have just looking to get a bit more feed back and maybe triple screens?? so confusing to get started and have fun, i dont want to be 1st every time, just have a proper race and get a sweat on and be a worry to others now n then.
which entry level fanatec wheel n pedals should i go for?? loooked countless youtube vids and none the wiser! any advice greatfully received…..
luv ya vids keep it up fella!

26.03.2022I never thought I would get into sim racing and now a I'm here, after buying a used but super well maintained 2000s Logitech wingman formula gp and now looking to upgrade to a newer wheel… Crazy

26.03.2022I hate americans for this reason.
A used G27 is as far as any of my friends are willing to go. Buying a new G920 could never be considered "as cheap as possible", what the fuck?
Besides that, how could you presume the "house" has a pc capable of running sim games, since when do parents buy a computer with a dedicated gpu or with a vega integrated? Most likely, all house pcs (if people even have those nowdays) are going to have intel integraded graphics.

26.03.2022Pfff, Ill kill all you noobs with a controller ;P

25.03.2022“GT Sport is better than Forza Motorsport from a physics and competition standpoint”
GT 7 has entered the chat
(Hopefully GT 7 has all of the competition and physics of GT Sport, it probably will for physics, but I’m not sure about competition, I hope it has a seperate sport mode and regular multiplayer mode, but that might be me being being optimistic)

25.03.2022Thank you mate! I'm a 10 year old kid that live's in Netherlands, my dad is such a fan in F1 racing, but i didn't know what gear i needed to buy. Thanks alot!

25.03.2022Do you happen to know any life-sized gaming racing wheel?

25.03.2022To be immersive, you probably need to buy more screens, motion boxes, wind tunnel, better game system etc etc. But to start, definitely a logitech G29 is enough pair with those cheap beach-chair turned racing seat 🙂

25.03.2022Ah, it Sucks that wheels aren't compatible with both Xbox and Playstation. I want to play stuff like Dirt Rallye 2.0 and Forza on my new Xbox Series S, but I also would love to try out Gran Turismo 7 and Gran Turismo Sport on my Playstation.

24.03.2022I just heard the most outrageous and scariest words out of my 8 year old daughter, "dad I want a sim racing system", I almost passed out but my answer was even more crazy, "ok, lets do it", again I almost passed out twice.

24.03.2022Good god, those pre-pandemic sim racing wheel prices!

24.03.2022– 2 to 3 year old gaming pc with video nvidia video card (350 to 500 usd)
– Logitech momo force (red), racing (black), Driving Force GT, microsoft sidewinder wheel… (50 to 100 usd)
– Existing chair and desk (0)
– Old game (grand prix 4, project cars, GTR2 ) = less than 10 usd
– New game on medium-low settings (iracing)
If you get fast lap times with these, fight for points / positions, and get hooked. invest more.
I have been playing simracing since Papyrus Nascar1 and IndyCar. We were so happy with a simple keyboard and running the game with sound. You don't need all these fancy equipment available today to be dedicated and post fast laps, and be competitive. You will generate a feel for the car with sound and visuals. The modern FFB is fun, but you can be competitive and take the car to the limit without it. You are omitting G force, vibrations in the seat, smell, wind, which add more to feeling the car than FFB on the wheel.
Don't let the marketing of "with FFB you can feel the limit better". That is true at some extent, but it doesn't mean that you CANNOT feel the limit without it.
Also you don't need a shifter, or a clutch. Just use the paddles (faster to shift) and auto-clutch in the game. You don't need to do Heel-N-Toe to be competitive, the game does it for you. Set the clutch to a button on the wheel so you can rev the engine and release it to generate wheel spin, for starts or in case you need to do a 180 to get back on track.
It's great that the Sim Racing industry has evolved so much that there is a huge market. But you can enjoy and be fast with simple equipment as well.

24.03.2022So my question is do u need a pc set up or can u just use an xbox and a tv?

24.03.2022Logitech 29 was £167 then but £270 now it's crazy

24.03.2022haha my thoughts on sim racing being pay to win – Iracing, how much do we want people to pay – yes.

24.03.2022Currently building my first sim and this got recommended, meanwhile the bill already totals over 25k for the setup lol. Hope I like it
Brad Sheap
24.03.2022Why don’t you ever do any dedicated videos for drifting. Cuz racing is mildly dull and equipment for each style is total opposites

23.03.2022Most realistic thing about sim racing is that you can have fun for cheap but shit gets expensive quick
kevin dellatore
23.03.2022it sucks right now because the G29 or G920 are both out of stock EVERYWHERE. Some third party sellers have them on Amazon but they're selling them for above MSRP

23.03.2022I don't think sim racing is pay to win, I think sim racing is pay to have more fun

23.03.2022now Logitech costs way to much same with all of them

23.03.2022what's the thrustmaster alternative to g29? he mentioned it but didn't say what it was. @chris haye

23.03.2022Cheapest setup is negCon (or psx/PS2 wheel) + psx adapter + any shit laptop
You're welcome
Sven Windhorst
23.03.2022I am going to start with my PC and IKEA seat I allready own, and a thrustmaster t300rs + wheelstand pro v2. I choose the thrustmaster because in the future, I might want to change the wheel to an f1-style one, which is not possible on the g29.
thx for the video 🙂 (even ist 2 years old, lol)

23.03.2022what, no mention of keyboard in the controllers section????
I Want Lee
23.03.2022I mean, apart from your pc and screen, all you really need is a wheel, pedals and a decent chair.

23.03.2022the idea that sim racing is similar in cost to real racing is outright laughable. the cost per hour of even the cheapest real racing setup is $200 an hour in the states.

22.03.2022Is the Tmx a better choice now? Seems the price of the g29 went up £100.

22.03.2022I bought a G923, and I was using it on the PC. I quickly realized that setting up the wheel (even if it should be compatible with the game) was a nightmare, so I bought a PS5 and Gran Turismo(I only play arcade type racing games). The G923 felt very different physically and mentally without any compatibility or driver issues. It just worked. I'll get a direct drive wheel for my PC one day, but how they utilized low-mid end controllers on the PS5 is insane.

22.03.2022@ChrisHaye wondered if you could help.?? I have been sim racing for over a year now on “Console” I run car games only like AC/ACC, 2021 fi dirt rally 2.0 etc.. but now I want to move on and play Automobilista 2 and R factor.. I don’t no much about PC (apart from my home dell optiplex 🤷🏼♂️) so what would be the best budget gaming PC I would I need to run the software???
Ps love the Chanel been so helpful 👍💯

22.03.2022Console Controller are great when driving slower cars, faster car spin without assists as they cannot control the degree of input.

22.03.2022I wouldn’t say shifting is “nightmarishly difficult” on controller. On GT Sport, using the face buttons for shifting is pretty intuitive
