03.08.2023AC on a controller is great, I have a wheel and if you really enjoy the game it's definitely worth the purchase but I still have so much fun on controller that when I'm feeling a bit more casual I play on the controller even today pretty often

03.08.2023Let me share my settings when I was using an Xbox pad: (For ACC at least, I can't remember what I put for Race Room)
Deadzone: 1%
Sensitivity: 27% (You can try higher if you wish)
Filter: 0%
Speed: 100%
Gamma: 1.0
Assist: Off
Rumble: 100%
Effect: Can't remember.
Stability: 0%
Other notes: Since control pad don't have force feedback, use your ears more. Listen to front wheels screeching, when you do, don't increase any more steering angle. Rumble effects also vibrate more when close to grip limit. And you will need a steady thumb, so NO swinging your thumb left and right left and right abruptly!

03.08.2023very interesting video. Many of us initiated with a controller. You can simulate reality with a controller, but not so accurately probably as using a wheel, specialy on a racing game of course. Many think the line between a sim and a simcade game is the inclusion of a good control scheme with gamepad. Others believe there are just hardcore sim games and simulators, being "simcade" not a concept we should use. Gran Turismo of Forza have always had elabourated control schemes in this sense, as they want to make their racing "realistic" game more accesible for casual players.
Lately top controller players have emerged in every sim, something many people didnt expect: iRacing, Assetto Corsa, ACC… should this sims adapt their physics more to do controller playing more accesible?
rFactor 2 offers a more arcadey or hardcore sim experience when playing from a controller. Does doing this adaptation and creating both of this options detract realism from the sim?
Same can be said about Gran Turismo. Compared to GT6, in GT Sport Plyphony Digital decided to equal the performance capacity of the controller to the steering wheel. Does equallying gamepads to steering wheels in sims detract realism from them? Some people think yes.
I recommend you watching AC PS4 players giggidy_oh and KillCity_GR27, who have several World Records in the game (counting with times done on PC), and use a controller to play. These guys managed to equal the performance of a controller to steering wheels in a game not specialy done for gamepad control. Everthing is possible if you put your mind to it and believe in it.

03.08.2023Anyone remember when Jacques Villeneuve raced in the All-Star Series on rFactor 2 against the likes of Jenson Button where they all used high range monitors and expensive wheels whilst he used a laptop and a controller?

03.08.2023For AC racers there is a Steam community Xbox pad guide by Kubro. I apply it once and never change it since, it worked flawlessly! It feels like a bit more sensitive version of Forza Motorsport. These are his setting.
Gamma=2.2 (220%)
Filter=0.82
Speed Sensitivity=75%
Deadzone=0.04 (I set it to 2%)
Steering Speed=100%

02.08.2023I play AC, ACC, F1 games, DiRT rally 2, sometimes PC2, and all of them on the game pad, and I can assure all are super super fun, although for the more serious titles such as both AC's for you to have a very good experience you do need to change your controller inputs, steering gama, sensitivity, etc. I play on an xbox so that's why I only play those games
heath_1
02.08.2023Pc3 and forza and anything by codemasters is best sims with controller also just rally games in general you can play any sim well tho you will just have to research and tweak settings alot id recomend playing a GT or forza game first and then try to make the sim feel abit like that is a good place to start lots of fiddling but people fiddle with ffb just as much so really no reason not to go pad

02.08.2023I have to say that the original Automobilista is the best simracing title for those wanting to play with a controller. I can never imagine not using the right thumb stick as your throttle and brake pedals and AMS lets you do just that. The experience is very pleasant let me tell ya. The only downside to AMS is that it's too short content-wise.
rFactor 2 is featured in this list but I have to say it's quite a hassle if you'd like to get your hands on this game with your Xbox / PS4 controller. I've put thousands of hours into this game only to find the sweet spot. What I mean by that is the cars are either too twitchy, or the game becomes something with cars that don't want to turn into corners. There's not a middle ground for it.

02.08.2023Let me share my control pad settings for RACE ROOM EXPERIENCE, for those with a Xbox One pad. Can't promise it can work for PlayStation pad too…
Assist:
Counter Steer: off
Video:
Wheel rotation: 180 (not sure if cars are literally 180 degrees or just cockpit animation)
Advanced:
Speed sensitivity steer: 24%
Min steering speed: 0
Max steering speed: 444
Steer dead zone: 2%
Throttle low dead zone: 0%
Brake low dead zone: 0%
Throttle upper dead: 100%
Brake upper dead: 100%
Steer sensitivity: 0%
Thottle sensitivity: 0%
Brake sensitivity: 0%
Throttle release: 100%
Brake release: 100%
Analogue sector 1, 2 and 3: 1000%
Return multiply: 1000%
Force Feedback (vibration rather…) I may come back later for this bit.
Strength: 100%
Linearity: 100%
Minimum: 0%
Maximum: 100&
Stationery: 50%
Immersion: All switched off.
Notes: You will need a steady thumb. So that means no jerking and no abrupt thumb movements unless catching unwanted oversteer. Speed sensitivity is set low so you can catch oversteer, if that is set higher, you will have a harder time catching slides. And vibrations help you indicate front wheel scrubbing and impending throttle oversteer on corner exit. You will also have to rely on visual cues too.
More notes: Analogue sectors, return multiply and speed sensitivity are the most important setup I think!
Extra notes: You are better off using a control pad on a PC sim racing game than a console racing car game. My settings are designed to provide accuracy and control, stability and consistency. Here is a test: Use a fast car such as a formula one (no older than eighties), group C, red bull car, indy car, etc. Don't use a slow car or else my test will be useless! Use my settings and drive those cars. Then go to either Gran Turismo or Forza Motorsport (any pad setting) and drive the same cars and compare how it handles to my pad settings.

01.08.2023I'm here because I bought myself a Thrustmaster TX wheel, and shifter, and built a permanent rig for it – with a big screen TV and a dedicated Xbox Series S – but my 72-year-old flatmate spends about 8-10 hours a day playing Forza on it, so I never get to use it!

01.08.2023good review but i have something to say, which pun intended, "really grinds my gears" .. ACC why have kunos enforced using L2/R2" the left and right triggers, for accelarate and brake? what made them believe that all controller players want these inputs for those parameters?, because i for 1 have ALWAYS used L2/R2 as gear down and gear up respectively …..and i have ALWAYS used the right analouge stick as accelarate and brake……..what's more EVERY other sim allows the player to do this EVEN including Kunos original game and prob the best game with a controller imho assetto corsa…it's arrogant and bigoted attitude, to presume something so fundamental for the player……to me it's a bit like not having inverse controls on a flight sim or first person shooter….and it's simply disrespetful…other than that the game is ok with a controller
easiest sim on controller snowrunner & ETS2/ATS yeah i know they are not racing games …in snow runner using the triggers for acc/brake is acceptable ..but only because of the nature of the game, my fav i already mentioned it, is the original assetto corsa, best mod? , you were using it, content manager , it may of been forgotten bu the original automobilista apart from being better then the sequel was also great with a controller
cheers

01.08.2023This is spot on… I love Racing games but I only play with the controller and Raceroom is the only game ever (along with is older brother Race 07) that makes you totally in control of the car with the gamepad… what makes the difference is the "analog sector" option… try it

31.07.2023is the throttle analog in R3E or is it like keyboard buttons?
someone in another video commented there was no middle ground on controllers for throttle and braking….
in my country G29 is in abudance and quite affordable, but i absolutely hate round wheels, and until i buy a PC with my own money i dont wanna invest on racing gears

31.07.2023I had a sim Racing rig for a few months but I Sold it because it took too much space and my room is not the biggest I also used my own rolling chair instead of a real racing chair and the sitting position was so uncomfortable that I sold my sim Rig. Know I use the Controller and im ok with it. Im not using a Clutch but im shifting manual with the buttons on the Controller.
